The Hobbit
Two films will be made of ‘The Hobbit.’ The first film, titled “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” will be released on December 14, 2012. The second film, titled “The Hobbit: There and Back Again,” is slated for release the following year, on December 13, 2013.
SOE Fan Faire 2011: An update on Vanguard
With no official panels or events planned for Vanguard fans at this year's Fan Faire, you might wonder whether Sony Online Entertainment has any plans for the future of the game. But take heart, because Vanguard is definitely alive and on the minds of the SOE development team. Salim "Silius" Grant from SOE sat down to talk to Massively about future plans for Vanguard. Sony Online Entertainment just confirmed during their live E3 stream that Station Access will soon be dropping to $19.99 per month from the current price of $29.99 per month. That means you can get access to all of SOE's games for a little more than the price of one game subscription.
Restoration of SOE's game services will begin today. This phased restoration will include the return of nearly all of our portfolio of online games, the reinstatement of our game forums and websites, and added functionality to require players to reset their passwords.
SOE will also be offering its customers a “Welcome Back” program that includes special game content and services to all registered Station Account holders. As part of this program, players will receive 30 days of additional game time plus one day for each day SOE’s services were down. Turbine has announced that global service for Lord of the Rings Online will begin on June 1, 2011. Codemasters will continue servicing LOTRO in Europe through June 1st when player accounts will be migrated to Turbine. Free transfers will be offered to all players and they will be informed when the transfer tool is online.

As part of a strategic decision to reduce costs and streamline its global workforce, SOE announced today that it will eliminate 205 positions and close its Denver, Seattle and Tucson studios. As part of this restructuring, SOE is discontinuing production of The Agency so it can focus development resources on delivering two new MMOs based on its renowned PlanetSide and EverQuest properties, while also maintaining its current portfolio of online games. All possible steps are being taken to ensure team members affected by the transition are treated with appropriate concern.
This strategic decision will have no impact on SOE’s current portfolio of live games; additionally SOE will transition development efforts for the Denver and Tucson studios’ suite of products to its San Diego headquarters. This strategic alignment of development resources better positions SOE to remain a global leader in online gaming and deliver on its promise of creating entertaining games for players of all ages, and servicing the 20 million players that visited SOE servers in just the past year.

Residing just south-east of Bree-town and Staddle, the area known as the Lone-lands is home to several iconic locations including the Forsaken Inn and Weathertop – the very place Strider and his band of Hobbit friends thwarted a nearly-deadly Nazgûl attack. It also offers more than 100 exciting quests to complete and 20 Deeds to earn for all players between levels 20+. For too long the denizens of the Lone-lands have dealt with vicious wildlife and nasty, cruel goblins. Fortunately, now is the time that all LOTRO players can embark on a heroic journey to save the Lone-lands and follow the Fellowship into even darker and more foreboding corners of Middle-earth!

On November 29, 2010, Vanguard will be switching over to the LaunchPad 3 version of the download client. The older versions will no longer work to download and patch Vanguard. You can download the Vanguard LaunchPad 3 installer here.
